Military Treatment Options

Military service members face additional hurdles when considering therapy. Unfortunately, some service members choose not to seek help because they are concerned about the confidentiality of the military therapy system. However, there are important differences between military and civilian psychologists that may provide better options. Military psychologists have obligations to the military, are often in contact with the service member’s command, and have additional items they are required to report. Civilian psychologists only have an obligation to the client and all sessions are confidential. Well Within Psychology accepts both TRICARE and other private insurances. Insurance companies keep records of therapy dates and diagnoses. For additional privacy, we also have private pay options (cash, card, or check) which ensure no information will be shared with your insurance.

Dr. McDonnell is a military spouse who specializes in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other issues that affect service members and their families. Although everybody’s military experience is unique, a common language and understanding of some of the challenges of military life is helpful.
